Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the SASSA Child Support Grant, you must:

  • Be a South African citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylum seeker
  • Be over 18 years old
  • Care for a child under 18 years old that is under your care
  • Earn an income below R48,000 per year if you are single or combined income less than R96,000 per year if you are married
  • Not receive another social grant for the same child

How to Apply

Follow these steps to apply for the SASSA Child Support Grant:

  2. Visit your nearest SASSA office to complete and submit the application form in person
  3. A SASSA officer will assist you in filling out the form accurately and completely
  4. If approved after verification, you will receive an SMS notification within 90 days

Child Support Grant Payment

If your application is approved, the monthly Child Support Grant amount of R480 can be received via:

  • Direct deposit into your personal bank account
  • Withdrawal from SASSA card at pay points
  • Cash payment collected at designated pay points
